  2. What is the treatment to be given to reinforcement steel for corrosion protection?
  3. What is the treatment to be given to structural steel for corrosion protection?
  4. How does one obtain good bonding of plaster with RCC ceiling, walls, columns or beams?

1. What is the method of bonding old and new concrete?

In order to get a good bonding between old and new concrete :

  1. Clean the surface of all loose particles and moisten with water.
  2. Apply Polyalk EP & Cement in the proportion of 1:1 (by weight) by brush.
  3. Provide a thin layer (chat coat) of 1:2 cement sand mortar.
  4. Immediately place a new concrete over it and carry on with the rest of the work as usual.

Note:
Provide a thin layer of 1:2 cement sand mortar. It is advisable for the mortar mix to match the proportion of cement sand part of the concrete e.g. if mix of new concrete is 1:1½:3 then the thin mortar layer should preferably be 1:1½. Sometimes longish aggregates are left protruding above the lower concrete and this would be helpful to increase integrity.

2. What is the treatment to be given to reinforcement steel for corrosion protection?

To protect reinforcement steel from corrosion clean the rusted reinforcement with wire brush; apply rust removing solution Rusticide to all exposed steel. This will remove any residual rust. Allow the Rusticide application for 24 hours and then brush off the loose particles by using a dry paint brush.
Apply a rust preventive coat of Polyalk Fixoprime/cement slurry in the proportion of 1: 2.5 to 1:5 (by weight) to the chemically derusted steel with soft paint brush.

3. What is the treatment to be given to structural steel for corrosion protection?

'Polycoat Red-Oxide' : To give long lasting protection to M.S. structures. This coating is far superior to contemporary alkyd resin- CNSL based synthetic redoxide formulations. Apply 'Polycoat Red-Oxide' by brush or spray in two or three coats as required, with a minimum interval of 24 hours between successive coats.

4. How does one obtain good bonding of plaster with RCC ceiling, walls, columns or beams?

Use Hack-Aid-Plast to get a good bond of plaster with RCC ceiling, walls, columns or beams. Follow the steps given below :

  1. Clean the surface of all loose particles and moisten with water.
  2. Apply ready to use single pack bonding agent Hack-Aid-Plast by spray to as much area as can be plastered (or gunnited) in about an hour.
  3. Wait for 10-15 minutes and provide a 'chat coat' of 1:3 cement mortar and then plaster as usual.
  4. Cure the plaster as usual.

Note: Do not provide neeru finish as the same can disturb the development of bond between old and new concrete.
