WATERPROOFING COMPOUNDS - POLYALK WP
Polymeric Water Proofing Solution

POLYALK WP is a most effective and proven polymeric waterproofing solution.

USES

  • Roof slabs – flat or sloping, chajjas, folded plate roofs, vaulted roofs, domes etc.
  • Flooring, external walls.
  • Sunk portion of bathrooms, toilets, balconies, etc.
  • Overhead or underground water tanks and other large reservoirs.
  • Mortars for filling joints of C. I. or any other drainage pipes.
  • As an admixture for providing waterproof plaster to external walls especially in high rise buildings.
  • As waterproof additive to any cement based paints used as a finishing coat.

ADVANTAGES

  • Can be easily mixed with cement forming an impermeable co-matrix film.
  • High flexural strength and extraordinary adhesion of polymer reinforces the high compressive strength property of cementitious matrix.
  • Alkaline and compatible with concrete.
  • Does not facilitate carbonation.
  • Can be applied in moist conditions e.g:
  • Exteriors, terraces and chajjas in wet spells of monsoon
  • Underground and/ or overhead water tanks almost immediately after emptying.
  • Can be mixed with any cement based paint and can thus have any desired colour shade.
  • Can be used as a base –waterproofing coat. After curing, it can receive Sunext –8

TEST ERSULTS

Test conducted on a concrete cube coated with POLYALK WP cement slurry. As per DIN 1048

Test Pressure Duration of test Permeability (Single coat) Permeability (Two coats)
1 bar 48 hrs 35 mm 0 mm
3 bars 24 hrs 35 mm

0 mm

7 bars 24 hrs 48 mm 0 mm

Note : One bar pressure is equivalent to 10 M of water column.

CONFORMANCE

Confirms to flexibility and adhesion test as per I.S. 101

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Preparation of the surface to be waterproofed is very important
  2. Any significant deficiency in the civil work such as loose or hollow concrete/ plaster, exposed reinforcement steel etc. should be first attended.
  3. Required curing should be done as per the usual norms
  4. Cracks other than hairline should be suitably widened, freed from loose particles and then filled with a mortar consisting of POLYALK EP ( Refer relevant product data sheet)
  5. Scrub and clean the surface to free it from any bitumen, oil, grease, loose flakes or particles.
  6. Moisten the surface with water jet one day prior to commencement of work.
  7. Prepare a slurry of 1 part POLYALK WP and 1.25 parts fresh white or grey cement by weight.
  8. Mixing is best done using a low–speed stirrer but continuous hand-mixing to a lump-free consistency is also adequate. Keep the mix continuously stirred.
  9. Apply the slurry by brush to the damp surface.
  10. Apply two more coats of similar slurry at 24 hrs intervals.
  11. Allow to set for 48 hours.
  12. Cure the coating for 7 days by sprinkling water thrice a day on the vertical surface ( external walls) and by moist gunny bags on the horizontal surface ( terraces).
  13. For best results it is necessary to sandwich the cured coating of POLYALK WP with a screed layer.

COVERAGE

Approximately 50 –55 ft2/ Kg. of POLYALK WP per coat on plain surfaces. May vary depending on the nature of the surface.

PRECAUTIONS

  1. Do not add any water
  2. Keep the slurry well stirred.
  3. Prepare as much slurry as can be applied in 30 minutes.
  4. Do not overwork the coating.
  5. POLYALK WP is non-toxic. Tests have shown that there is no harm even when drinking water is exposed to larger concentrations of the chemical.
  6. Any accidental spillage or splash on the body must be immediately washed with plenty of water. Use of protective hand gloves and goggles is recommended.
  7. Wash all implements with soap water. Remove hardened deposits mechanically.

PACKING

1, 5, 20 kgs HDPE containers.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

It has a shelf life of 12 months when stored in original containers in a cool, dry place.
