POLYALK WCR
Waterproofing By Crystallization
DESCRIPTION
POLYALK –WCR is an economical, waterproofing system, manufactured in the form of dry powder. It is blend of Portland cement, very fine treated silica sand and various active special chemicals. POLYALK –WCR , when mixed water and applied as a slurry, penetrates in pores & capillary of concrete. The alkali silicates combine with the water & free calcium particles forming crystals. Once the crystals have formed, they block pores and capillaries. It is applied as surface treatment on concrete, brickwork and blockwork.
CONFORMANCE
Conforms to - U. S. Army Corps of Engineers CRD-C- 48-73 “Permeability of Concrete” & ASTM C 267 –77 – “Chemical Resistance of mortars “.
SALIENT FEATURES
1. It can withstand up to 70 mm hydrostatic pressure.
2. It becomes integral part of concrete , so can not puncture or tear.
3. Provides waterproofing, whether applied internally and externally.
4. Durable – lasts as long as the concrete.
5. Excellent chemical resistance.
6. Non toxic.
APPLICATIONS
To make waterproof and Protection of :
1. Water tanks
2. Reservoirs
3. Dams
4. Tunnels
5. Underground Vaults
6. Foundations
7. Sewage treatment works
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
-
Surface Preparation : Concrete surface to be treated must be clean, and have an ‘open capillary system’. Faulty concrete in the form of cracks, honey combing must be chased out, repaired and made good. Remove laitance, dirt, paints or other foreign matter etc by means of high pressure water jetting, wet sandblasting or wire brushing. Surfaces must be prewetted prior to application. The concrete surface must be damp but not wet. Excess surface water should be removed.
-
Mixing : POLYALK–WCR is mixed with clean water to slurry consistency. It requires 7-9 litres water for 25 kg bag.
-
Application : POLYALK–WCR treatment should be applied with a semi-stiff bristle brush, janitor’s broom ( for large horizontal applications ) or with specialized spray equipment. One coat should have a thickness of just under 1.5 mm. When second coat is required, it should be applied after the first coat has reached an initial set but is still ‘ green’ ( before 24 hours). POLYALK–WCR can not be applied in rain or during freezing condition.
-
Curing : The treated areas should be kept damp for a period of 3 days and must be protected against direct sunlight, wind, and frost by covering with polythene sheets, damp hessian or similar.

COVERAGE
The first coat at 0.75 kg /Sq.m. and second at 1 kg / Sq.m when applied by brush, or spray.
PACKING
5, 25 kg containers.
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
It has a shelf life of 6 months when stored in original containers in a cool , dry place.
HEALTH & SAFETY
POLYALK–WCR is non toxic, non hazardous . Usual precautions like wearing gloves and goggles when handling should be followed. Accidental splashes
on skin and in eyes should be washed off with plenty of plain water.
