POLYALK FIXOPRIME is a highly alkaline, polymeric, elastomeric formulation specially designed to protect steel from corrosion by passivation mechanism.
USES
- Passivation of exposed steel in repairs to structural members.
- Coating of reinforcement bars in new R.C.C. structures.
- Steel-pipeline, structures, bridges, arches, etc. especially in marine environment.
- H. T. wires / cables / strands etc. in prestressing job.
ADVANTAGES
- One-pack system. Can be mixed with cement easily forming a highly alkaline co-matrix.
- High alkalinity of cement reinforced by high alkalinity, high flexural strength and extra adhesion due to specially engineered polymers in POLYALK FIXOPRIME, gives long term protection against corrosion to steel.
- Treatment can be carried out at site. Coated bars do not suffer bond loss when embedded in concrete unlike epoxy coated bars which are known to suffer substantial bond loss.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
- Clean the steel surface by a stiff wire-brush to remove loosely held rust particles/ scales.
- Apply RUSTICIDE with cotton waste swab as per specification.
- Mix 1 Kg POLYALK FIXOPRIME with 1 to 1.25 kg fresh cement to form lump free consistent slurry using a mechanical mixer.
- Apply this slurry to the steel surface by a brush taking care to avoid pinholes.
- Allow this coat to set for a minimum of six hours ( or preferably till next day)
- Apply a second coat of the slurry and allow this coat to set. Take definite precautions to avoid pinholes. Ensure that no area is left uncovered.
COVERAGE
Approx. 8 to 10 m2 / Kg / coat on smooth structural steel surface.

BS 5896-1980, I.S. 2074/1962 – salt spray test for long hours.
I.S. 9077 –1979 (reaffirmed –1997) Appendix B. Clause 5.3.3 for application procedure.
PRECAUTIONS
- Do not add any water. Prepare as much slurry as can be used within 30 minutes.
- Non-toxic, any contact with skin must be washed off immediately with water.
- Wear protective goggles, gloves, etc. during preparation and application of slurry.
PACKING, STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
1,5, 20 kg HDPE containers. Shelf life 12 months in original packing in a cool, dry place. |
