Dr. S. K. Manjrekar is invited as a keynote speaker for CONCET2022

The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (lead organiser for CONCET2022), University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Malaysia, jointly organised the 15th International Conference on Concrete Engineering and Technology CONCET2022 and invited Dr. S. K. Manjrekar to be one of the Keynote Speakers.

It was held on 5 – 8 December 2022 as a virtual event on Innovation and Resilience in concrete construction.

Dr. S. K. Manjrekar, CMD of Sunanda Global, presented a topic on the Recovery of the Global Construction Industry with Innovative Use of Smart Materials to Overcome the Pandemic Shock, Oil Crisis, Economic Crisis, and Extended War Situation.

This biennial international conference on concrete engineering and technology was the 15th in the series since 1989. It was one of the prominent international built environment technical events held in Malaysia, attracting speakers and audiences from across the globe.

Since the start, this conference has been jointly organized by:

Theme and topics:

CONCET2022 covered revolutionary prospects and state-of-the-art technology in the broader topic of innovation and a more particular topic of resilience in concrete construction. Innovation was a larger concept of exploring, creating, changing, and adapting. With the pace of change and progress seen in Malaysia and globally, there was growing pressure for industry experts to meet the demands better and faster.

This required the latest and current knowledge, which the conference revealed.

The resilience design institute defined resilience as the capacity to adapt to evolving conditions and to maintain or sustain functionality and vitality in the face of stress or disturbance. It was the capacity to bounce back after a disruption or interruption.

The conference explored advancements in concrete engineering and technology regarding using concrete in resilient design in construction, focusing mainly on sustainability, safety, and durability.

The topics included:

  • New-generation concrete materials
  • Recycled materials and by-products in concrete
  • Modular and prefabricated construction
  • Advanced structures and infrastructure
  • Construction management
  • Testing, inspection, and health monitoring
  • Alkali-activated cementitious composite
  • 3D printing of concrete
  • Building information modeling
  • Aging infrastructure
  • Repair, rehabilitation, and strengthening
  • Life-cycle assessment of concrete structures
  • Service life design
  • Climate-resilient design of concrete structures
  • Disaster preparedness and mitigation
