Case study of Hyderabad Metro Rail – High Performance PU Elastomeric Waterproofing

Hyderabad Metro Rail Project:

The Hyderabad Metro is the third longest operational metro network in India, which provides rapid transit services to the city of Hyderabad in Telangana, India.

The project comprises three corridors covering a total distance of 72 kilometers and includes 66 stations.

L&T faced the challenge of finding a waterproofing solution for the elevated sections of the metro rail project.

The elevated sections are exposed to extreme weather conditions and require a robust and durable waterproofing solution to protect the structure from water damage.


Sunanda Global was approached by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a multinational conglomerate, to provide a high performance liquid-applied polyurethane elastomeric membrane for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project.

As part of the construction work at the Hyderabad Rail, the waterproofing and protection layer of the elastomeric liquid waterproofing membrane had to be applied.  

This membrane is a moisture-cured liquid polyurethane elastomeric membrane designed for waterproofing a wide range of surfaces. This membrane forms a seamless, flexible, and durable barrier against water ingress.

The design remains flexible under extreme temperature conditions. It adheres strongly to the surface of concrete, making it an ideal solution for infrastructure projects like the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

This elastomeric liquid waterproofing membrane ensures durable and highly crack-bridging waterproofing performance.

It also has good resistance to mechanical and impact stress. The fast reaction time enables an optimal workflow with minimal waiting time between application steps.


The construction of the Hyderabad Metro Rail utilised the highly reactive liquid-applied polyurethane elastomeric membrane.

It shows the same good result within the system using the fast-curing Sunanda’s elastomeric liquid waterproofing membrane. 

The object’s fast curing feature and short overcoating interval reduced its downtime substantially.
