Case study of Hyderabad Metro Rail – PU Waterproofing

The L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Project:

The L& T Hyderabad Metro Rail, an expedited transit system catering to Hyderabad, Telangana, India, ranks as the nation’s third-lengthiest operational metro network, succeeding only the Delhi Metro and Namma Metro (Bengaluru).

The Hyderabad Metro Rail is the largest public-private partnership metro project in the world. It stretches across 69.2 kilometers in three corridors, transforming Hyderabad and igniting a booming local economy.

The layout of the lines adopts a secant model, and the project operates on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, making it the world’s largest elevated Metro Rail system under this framework. Financed through a public–private partnership (PPP), the state government maintains a minority equity stake, and L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMRHL), a specialized company established by L&T Construction, is spearheading the development of the Hyderabad metro rail project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 30-kilometer (19 mi) section from Miyapur to Nagole on November 28, 2017, featuring 24 stations.

This marked the unveiling of the lengthiest rapid transit metro line in India in one go, with an estimated cost of ₹18,800 crore (US$2.4 billion).

The project consists of multiple phases, each requiring a range of construction and infrastructure work. One of the critical requirements of the project is waterproofing the elevated station structure to ensure its longevity and safety.

The elevated stations of the L&T Metro Rail Project are exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, high temperatures, and humidity.

Application

Moreover, the product’s quick curing time and ease of application helped to accelerate the construction process, reducing the overall project timeline and costs.

Sunanda Global’s technical team’s on-site support and quality checks ensured that the product was applied correctly and to the highest standards, providing the contractors with peace of mind and reducing any future maintenance costs.

Conclusion:

Sunanda Global’s liquid applied polyurethane waterproofing membrane solution proved to be the ideal solution for the L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Project’s waterproofing needs. Its seamless and flexible membrane provides excellent protection against water damage while being cost-effective and easy to apply.
