Corrosion-Resistant RCC for Defence Office Complexes – Delhi

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2021, the Defence Office Complexes reflect a major leap toward sustainable, secure, and future-ready infrastructure in the capital.

This major project consists of an eight-storey facility on Kasturba Gandhi Marg and a seven-storey complex on Africa Avenue, together covering a built-up area of 960,000 square feet. Designed specifically to house over 7,000 defense personnel, the complexes were completed impressively within just 12 months. This initiative formed a key component of the Central Vista redevelopment, focused on upgrading national infrastructure with speed and efficiency.

Two modern, multi-storey office buildings—one at KG Marg (G+8) and one at Africa Avenue (G+7) designed to consolidate 27 previously scattered defence offices.

CPWD-certified as green buildings, these complexes optimize sustainability with rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling for flushing and landscaping, retained mature trees, energy-efficient systems, and solar panels (520 kWp) supporting lighting and street lights

These buildings mark a significant upgrade in India’s defence infrastructure, showcasing innovation in design, construction, and sustainability—all while supporting the Central Vista revitalization.

Client/Project Owner :

Ministry of Defense, Government of India

Year of Completion :

2020 – 2021

Contractor :

Ahluwalia Contracts India Limited

Problem Statement & Scope :

The project was conceived as a greenfield initiative to replace outdated and scattered defense offices with secure, centralized, and energy-efficient buildings. The vision was to create a modern working environment tailored to the operational needs of the defense forces. With a tight deadline and high-performance expectations, the focus was on rapid construction, structural longevity, and protecting internal reinforcement systems from environmental damage.

Solution Proposed & Product Used:

To tackle the risk of steel reinforcement corrosion in the foundation from environmental factors. POLYALK CP 293 was introduced as a core component in the concrete mix in the foundation. This advanced, bipolar, non-nitrite admixture penetrates the concrete and forms a molecular-level protective barrier on steel surfaces, significantly improving their corrosion resistance and will protect the steel reinforcement from corrosion.

  • POLYALK CP 293 functions as an integral admixture in concrete to prevent corrosion, removing the need for any external coating on steel reinforcement.
  • Simply add the admixture directly into the concrete mix.
  • It is suitable for use at batching plants, in RMC trucks on-site, or during manual mixing at the construction site.

Client Feedback :

Client specifically recognized the reliable performance of POLYALK CP 293 in strengthening the structural framework and providing lasting protection to the embedded. The performance of the product met expectations and was found to be satisfactory. The technical team from Sunanda displayed strong subject knowledge and responded promptly and effectively to all our queries. Additionally, the delivery of materials was carried out efficiently and within the stipulated timeline, contributing to the smooth progress of the project.
