SMC Valak French Well – Water Infrastructure for Surat’s Residents
The Surat Municipal Corporation Valak French Well project is a critical water supply facility developed by Surat Municipal Corporation to ensure reliable water distribution across the city. Executed by Unique Construction, the project involved the installation and protection of mild steel pipelines exposed to aggressive environmental conditions and continuous contact with water.
For infrastructure of this nature, long-term durability is non-negotiable. The pipeline coating system had to provide corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, and strong adhesion across both internal and external surfaces, while meeting safety standards for potable water contact.

The Challenge
The MS pipelines at the Valak French Well project faced a specific and demanding set of protection requirements:
- Protection of MS pipelines against corrosion in a high-moisture environment
- Ensuring long-term durability and service life of the pipeline system
- Requirement of a non-toxic coating suitable for contact with potable water
- Protection of both internal and external pipeline surfaces from aggressive environmental conditions
The Application
Sunanda Global supplied a two-product anti-corrosion coating system for complete internal and external protection of the MS pipelines.

SUNEPOXY ZINCRICH was applied as the primer coat. A two-component zinc-rich epoxy primer, it provides both barrier and sacrificial protection against steel corrosion. The high zinc content delivers active cathodic protection, while excellent adhesion to steel substrates and rapid drying characteristics made it well suited to the pipeline application. It also offers superior chemical and solvent resistance.
SUNEPOXY HB was applied as the finish coat. A two-component, non-toxic, solvent-free, high-build epoxy coating formulated with specialty pigments and glass flakes; it cures into a dense, durable, hygienic film with excellent resistance to water, chemicals, acids, alkalis, and petroleum products. Suitable for potable water contact applications, it provided the waterproof barrier and chemical resistance the internal and external pipeline surfaces required.
The system was applied across both internal and external pipeline surfaces, ensuring complete protection and extending the operational service life of the infrastructure.
